MA in Urban Studies Student Making Impact in Kansas City
Tawyna Metzler works as the Business Manager of Waterstone Apartments in Kansas City, KS. For many years, Tawyna has been working to improve life for Waterstone residents. Tawyna began the MA in Urban Studies program last fall and continues to work towards sharping her skills- all while doing some incredible work. Last year Tawyna was instrumental in operating an on-site discount store where “People who live in the complex can volunteer to work at the store or clip coupons… and get paid Waterstone dollars that they can spend in the store.” The prices are kept low because items are purchased with the support of an extreme couponer. Read more at this link. As in many urban communities, violence is a problem at Waterstone Apartments. Recently, Waterstone created an initiative that organized apartment buildings and determined representatives from each to watch and report crime in the community.
