One special lady
So one awesome thing about an awesome RA is that you get to have AMAZING hall activities! One of the things we do as a hall is go to dinner on Sundays together. It is an awesome way to catch up and just talk. The community on my floor is like no other. A few weekends ago we had a dinner prepared by our RA. It was so thoughtful. It just goes to show how genuine and loving people are here and how they want to serve others and have meaningful relationships with you. RA’s are meant to be here to help and to be with you as you grow in spirituality. You may think they are doing their jobs, well they are but they are doing much more than they have to. They invest themselves into each and every one of you that are lucky enough to be on their halls! I have had talks with...
Problems With Society
I remember when I was a lot younger, my sister said to me, “You don’t know what the ghetto is.” To which I thought, “I think I know what it is.” Looking back, I had no clue what it was, but I wanted to know. I believe this is a big problem in the world today. Many kids that are growing up are deliberately sheltered from troubled areas. How then are we supposed to help our people out of poverty, if we are raised to not even have the slightest idea of what they go through? We will all see things on TV for short periods of time that give us a small glimpse, but we all move on afterwards. I believe this is because you need to experience it first hand. Then you will find people who tell stories of how bad things are, and that they couldn’t NOT go out of...
Lent?
Ok, so here’s a few thoughts I’ve got on Lent. The whole idea is to give up something that separates you from God, right? A lot of people have different opinions on the matter. Some people will devoutly give up certain things for 4o days and others say “well if God gave me all of these things, why would He want me to give it up?”. Growing up, Lent was never something that my family practiced. I have nothing against it, and I’m not a firm believer in it either. But when a friend here at Eastern told me that he saw it as more than just giving up material things, I was interested. For instance, a lot of people are too judgmental, or struggle with different temptations. Or maybe you have too much stress in your life and need to let God...
Spring Break HURRY UP!
Hey guys, Today is Monday and on Friday, my spring break starts and I am so incredibly excited. I am extremely busy with studying and preparing for all the work that is due before and after spring break. I mean seriously though, who wants to be doing school work over break? That is why I am currently trying to work on the stuff that is due after break so that I do not need to work on it over my break. College is very stressful, but I believe that it is worth the stress because in four years I will have a job that pays me well. Here at Eastern it is a mad house because of all the midterms everyone is preparing for. The library is rarely empty and it is a little difficult to find an open computer but all you have to do is hang around for a bit and one will...
3-Course Meal for the Price of $1
Food. For those of you who haven’t read my previous posts, I live on campus in a dorm called Hainer. This residence hall is the oldest, but what we lack in image we make up for in community. Last night we had a building-wide activity called a Progressive Dinner. Each hall or floor was in charge of providing for a certain course of the dinner, and then we all came together to enjoy the fresh food and company of fellow students. The night started off with drinks, and then moved to the first course: appetizers that consisted of different dips. My personal favorite was a warm buffalo chicken dip. Then we moved to the second course: a main entree of pasta. The final third course was dessert, provided by my own hall and organized by my lovely RAs. After enjoying...
